Military and Police Attack on Hindus in Chittagong: 120 Missing, Hundreds Injured, 2 Reported Dead

On November 6, the Bangladesh Police and Military jointly launched a widespread attack on the Hindu community in Chittagong, involving violence, assault, and looting. The forces reportedly assaulted 500-600 members of the Hindu community with batons, subjected them to inhumane torture, broke CCTV cameras, entered homes to vandalize furniture, and attempted to assault women. Many Hindus were severely injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment. There have been reports of 1 or 2 casualties. Authorities have admitted to detaining 80 people in camps, while 120 individuals remain missing.

During the incident, officials allegedly threatened to shoot if Hindu shopkeepers did not open their stores by the count of three.

In video footage, it can be seen that as the military and police attacked the Hindu homes in unison, a group of Hindus ran and fell in the middle of the street, whereupon the Bangladeshi military and police continued to beat them with batons.

Before vandalizing homes, business establishments, and attempting to assault women, the military reportedly broke cameras to prevent recording. However, the cameras captured video footage up until they were damaged.

Several videos of these attacks by the military have surfaced.

Hundreds of Hindus have been injured, and reports indicate that 1 or 2 people may have died. Injured Hindus expressed that they have not only been physically harmed but are also mentally devastated.

According to Hindus, the attack is reminiscent of the 1971 killings by Pakistani forces and Bangladeshi Muslims targeting Hindus.
